Introducing: Leanne Mireault

M.Sc.PT, B.Sc.

About Me

Physiotherapist, Masters student

I am a Physical Therapist by background, with a strong passion for providing leadership, strategic and operational support within the public health care system. Prior to taking on my current role of Care Management Leader for Acquired Brain Injury, I worked as a frontline clinician and Physiotherapy Team Lead in numerous acute care areas including intensive care, trauma, spinal cord injury, stroke and acute geriatrics. Working in a variety of clinical settings and across two different provinces-- Alberta and British Columbia-- has given me a unique perspective on the state of the public health care systems, including its strengths and current challenges.  I love working in fast-paced and unpredictable environments and being challenged to bring my "A-game" on a daily basis.

Over the past three years, I have been pursing my Masters in Health Studies at Athabasca University, while continuing to work full-time.  I anticipate completing this degree by April of 2024.

Outside of work and school, my husband and I (and our feisty feline) are looking forward to adding a tiny human to the mix in August of 2023.

Positionality Statement:

I am a 32 year old, white, able-bodied, physically “fit” female.  I have a Bachelors degree in biological science and a Masters in Physical Therapy, and am currently working on the completion of my second Masters degree.  As a physical therapist, I have chosen to work only in the public system I do not believe that the treatment one receives should be dependent on one’s ability to pay: working in the public system allows me to prioritize patients based on need.

I was born and raised in Canada and grew up in a loving and stable, middle-class family.  I have never been wealthy, but I have also suffered food insecurity or feared being unhoused. I was not raised in any religion and I would classify myself as being agnostic in my beliefs. I am married to a supportive husband and have a strong social support network of friends and family.
